Material

All jewelry from Feministsmith is made from 925 sterling silver or 18k gold – no other strange metals. Nickel-free and, of course, water-resistant.

Storage & everyday tips

1. Store airtight (e.g., in a zip bag or jewelry box) – preferably in the bedroom.
2. Avoid the bathroom: moisture causes silver to oxidize faster.
3. Remove necklaces when you sleep. A thin chain can actually stretch several centimeters before breaking if it gets caught. Bonus: the jewelry rests for 8 hours and lasts longer.
   

Avoid if possible:

1. Coloring your hair while wearing jewelry
2. Perfume/hairspray directly on the jewelry (spray first, then put on the jewelry).
3. Sleeping with chains (same reason as for silver: risk of catching and tearing).

SILVER – cleaning & polishing

Silver can darken over time because it reacts with substances in the air (completely normal!) and also depending on skin, perfume, and creams.

Here’s how to restore the shine:

1. Polish with a polishing cloth for a quick refresh.
2. For more oxidation: use silver dip or the home remedy I link to HERE
   

If the jewelry is dirty (lotion/grease/"coating")

First wash: lukewarm water + a drop of dish soap. Gently brush with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry completely – then polish.

Jewelry with stones

Can be cleaned the same way as long as the stone is a genuine gemstone.

⚠️ Important: If the jewelry has blackened details, do not use silver dip/polishing liquid – the black finish will disappear. Only polish with a polishing cloth.

BLACKENED SILVER
Blackened silver is silver that has been given a dark finish through a special oxidation process.

You don’t need to do anything at all (how nice?!).

Over time, the finish may become a bit duller/wear off – and then I can, of course, re-oxidize the jewelry for you.

GOLD – care & cleaning

All my gold jewelry is solid 18k gold and is durable and does not oxidize like silver, but it can become dull from everyday wear (skin creams, perfume, soap residues) and get small scratches over time – completely normal for a piece of jewelry that is worn and loved.

How to keep your gold looking beautiful:

1. Polish with a soft polishing cloth when it feels a bit dull.
2. If you want a deeper clean: lukewarm water + a drop of dish soap and gently brush with a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely with a soft towel.

Jewelry with stones/diamonds

Clean the same way (dish soap + soft brush). Be extra careful around settings and always dry completely.

Product Identification and Traceability

Each piece of jewelry is sold by Feministsmith AB and made in Feministsmith’s workshop in Gävle (with some purchased components/materials from EU suppliers). GPSR requires traceability and that you as a customer can identify the product and the manufacturer.

Materials and Content

The jewelry is made of:

• 925 sterling silver
  
• 18K gold
  

Gemstones that may be included: diamond, sapphire, and other genuine gemstones (some diamonds may have certificates).

Nickel: In the EU, there are regulations for nickel release. Feministsmith sells jewelry made of precious metals and complies with current requirements for materials in contact with skin.

Intended Use

The jewelry is intended to be worn as adult jewelry under normal use.

Not a toy: The jewelry is not intended for children. Always keep jewelry out of reach of small children.

Foreseeable Risks and How to Use the Jewelry Safely

Jewelry can – under normal or reasonably foreseeable use – involve certain risks. The most important are:

1) Small parts / parts that may come loose

Some jewelry contains small components (e.g., clasps, backings, charms, stones). Check the jewelry regularly and stop using it if anything feels loose.

2) Snagging / wear

Chains and earrings can catch on hair, clothing, or fabric and then become strained/weakened. It’s a good idea to remove jewelry during sleep, exercise, and activities where the jewelry might catch.

3) Pointed details

Some designs may have points/edges (statement shapes). Handle carefully and avoid wearing them in situations where you risk scratching yourself or others (e.g., playing with small children).

4) Skin reaction/irritation

Even precious metals can cause irritation for some (e.g., with moisture, soap residue, perfume). Stop use if you experience discomfort and contact me if you have questions.

Special Note on Earrings and Piercing

Earrings/piercings are intended for use in healed skin/piercings. Use the included butterfly backs and stop use if you experience inflammation, swelling, or pain.

If Something Is Wrong

If you have reason to believe that a piece of jewelry is dangerous or does not meet safety requirements, stop using it and contact me. GPSR requires actors to act quickly in case of risks and report to the EU system if necessary.
