She grew up in the Old Town and spent summers in Dalarö. The family belonged to the upper middle class and socialized mainly within Stockholm’s Jewish community. Hanna began studying art early, already at the age of 12, attending, among others, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and later the Académie Colarossi in Paris from 1885 to 1887.\u003cbr\u003e\nIn 1887, she married Georg Pauli and took his surname. He was also active in the arts as a painter and sculptor. Hanna primarily painted intimate interiors and psychologically penetrating portraits. One of her most famous works is the group portrait Friends, with Ellen Key centrally placed in the image, reading aloud to her friends in the Juntan circle... Hanna herself sits on the floor.\u003cbr\u003e\nIn 1905, Hanna and Georg built Villa Pauli in Nacka. There, they each had their own studio and lived and worked for the rest of their lives.
