As a teenager, she worked for a company that manufactured gloves, with a 60-hour workweek. The women working there were paid very poorly and were only compensated for the number of gloves they managed to sew. They were also forced to pay for their own sewing machine needles and oil. In 1902, Agnes and her coworkers launched a strike due to their working conditions, and after 10 days, all their demands were met. They received a wage increase and no longer had to pay rent for their machines.
Following the success of the strike, Agnes remained involved in labor issues until her death in 1948. She was one of the founders of the National Women's Trade Union League, which worked to improve workplace conditions for women.
Maternal healthcare was also a cause Agnes fought for, along with the right to parental leave. She was also engaged in the fight for women's suffrage and in 1913 traveled with the suffrage train, giving talks in various places about working women's need for the right to vote.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1009/6597/4348/files/agnes-18k-halsband-feministsmeden-3272509.jpg?v=1769871854
